Every light-weight in the corridor was ablaze; every lamp turned as substantial as it could be without cigarette smoking the chimney or threatening explosion. This allowed the floating wood mantel and luminous artwork to include contrast whilst balancing the proportions.  Electric fireplaces may also be comparatively economical to operate. T
